UPPER WEST SIDE DUPLEX
New York City
Our clients asked SPG to give this light-filled apartment a sleeker, more modern character and adapt it to their needs. Their extensive library is held in a two-story waterfall of maple cabinetry that leads from the front door through stair hall, defines the perimeter of the new open space upstairs, and is enhanced by a double-height red wall and a glass-and-steel staircase. The vertical flow of the entrance and stair-hall are complimented by the horizontal sight lines that lead your eye from the wide entry hall to the living room windows. Movable translucent panels serve to articulate the long walls of cabinetry, hiding media components when not in use. Additional panels can either separate the stair hall from the library or slide out of the way to allow for a continuous loft-like space.
