New York, NY
SPG Architects designed this space as a flexible open-planned design studio. Vertical planes of eco-resin and acrylic transmit and reflect light and act as foils to the horizontal work surfaces and floating storage units. The sense of openness is created by the continuous ceilings, which overlap contiguous spaces. The ceilings further define the character of the studio by acting as the means to light the space, either through coves in discrete areas or, as in the main linear studio, as a reflector for the custom linear pendant up-light fixtures. The entire office is washed with natural light by a wall of windows that unifies this interior with the city’s energy yet maintains a serene effect through its mono-chromatic palette of grays, creams and whites.
